Someone told me if I disconnect the batter for over an hour, that it will do a hard reset of the "check engine" light. Can someone confirm if this is true or not? Disconnecting it for 5 minutes didn't seem to do much, as the light still comes on when I reconnect the battery.

if you disconnect the battery for half an hour, and upon starting the motor, the light comes on again, there's really something wrong with the truck, When the system re-initializes, and the problem still exists, the code will still be stored. The best thing to do is to look up the code, and fix the problem.

Never heard of a hard reset ?? You can go to Auto Zone or some other major ayto supply and they will scan your codes for free. The numbers all have a meaning and someone has to diagnose the problem. If you, for instance, get a knock sensor reading, that does not mean you have to replace the knock sensor. The readings are important because some situations could cause damage to your engine or could cause your engine to shut down with no notice. Not a good idea to just turn off the lite.

on that new of a vehicle it wont do any good. if the vehicle was older maybe around a 95 or older with obd1 it might reset. but with obd2 you have to reset the light with a scan tool. disconnecting the battery will just make you have to reset your radio

as soon as you reconnect it, it will scan and find the same error. just get a buddy with a scan tool to scan you and reset if everything is ok
