I have this huge project on the Grapes of Wrath. One of the requirements for this project is to bring a refreshment for the whole class that is reflective of the book or the era the book takes place in. My mom suggested pork rinds, but I don't even like them and I don't think any one in my class will either. Does anyone who's read the book have any ideas? Something really simple to make or something I can buy cheaply would be great too. Thanks!

Take refreshment enough for you alone. Recall that scene where the driver of the bulldozer has unpacked his meal before resuming the demolition! Read them the section. The description sharpened my pangs of hunger when we read the text in high school. Then unpack the most appetizing refreshment that your class likes most but rarely affords. Enjoy the delicacy with wolfish relish letting some drip or scatter to the ground! Offer no one any bite or taste. If anything remains, trash it in the trash bin! Then read them these lines from Tom:
"Whenever there's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there."

Anything that is preserved. My great grandmother is the most frugal person ive ever know and she lived through the depression. Making small amounts stretch and preserving food were some of the things that stick to my mind in concern with that era. Good luck. . .

to refelct the book: well....for the people who were employed and considered well off - you can lemonade, finger sandwiches

if you want to have food that reflects the poor migrants - then a simple stew...or bread with jam.....or cut vegetables.

to reflect the era: very simple and frugle stuff. Perserves, pickeled stuff, bread (unsliced), cheese, fruit...stuff like that. Nothing processed.

I don't remember what penny candy the kids had, I think it was licrioce. You could try that. Or Bread. Either bake a loaf or get those thick sliced breads at the grocery store in the bakery department, because I remember them stopping to purchase bread.

nicely, the e book is a pair of relatives shifting west during the super melancholy, to get to California, the place maximum folk like them ended up being fruit pickers contained in the valley. perhaps you ought to easily get some style of sparkling fruit. i've got been in N. CA maximum of my existence, pear and plum orchards are incredibly undemanding contained in the valley. each so often even nuts like almonds or pecans. Oranges are greater undemanding in Southern CA nowdays, yet back then there have been many greater of them, so perhaps you would be able to desire to get a number of those little mandarins that are in season ideal now. all and sundry likes those.
