They aren't preppy by classic definition. The actually deifnition of preppy falls more along the lines of Lacoste, Sperry Topsider, J Crew, etc. Think New England yuppies.
Those stores are viewed as "Preppy Nouveau", kind of a new twist on preppy. They're more trendy than anything.

Yes, they are defiantely considered preppy. People call me a prep all the time just because I wear Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and American Eagle. But hey, if you like their clothes why not wear it.

Yeah, I guess they are preppy, but I don't shop at those stores. You know, some people are so stupid and they buy these things, totally over priced and you can buy better quality of the same thing but cheaper. Guess what? Even a brand shirt WITHOUT the brand written on it is cheaper than the same one WITH the brand written on it -- by a huge difference!

I'd say they're a mix between preppy and trendy. Preppy is more classic stuff, like polos, but they also have trendy fits, and things that will go out of style within a few months!

I agree with what jennifer said; those stores are kind of the "new preppy". They are pretty mainstream, although there are ways to wear the clothes so that they're not preppy. If that's any thing.

Yep. Those are the atypical preppy clothing stores. There's nothing really wrong with that though. If you like shopping there then by all means do that.

not everything, it depends on what you wear it with. If you are going for the preppy look, then you will know what to wear. If you dont want to look like that, then it can just be a shirt you know, i mean theres like people into ghetto fashions that wear hollister. It all depends on who YOU are, or want to be.

No, you can find preppy clothes just about anywhere. These stores just sell good clothes. You don't have to be preppy just to buy and use them!
