I have them and everytime my monthly cycle comes the pain gets worse and worse. I went years ago to the doctor but he said theres nothing that can be done unless a hysterectomy.(sorry for mispelling)

omg! there are lots of new treatments. You can have the blood supply cut off to them and they die/shrink, you can also be put on meds to cut your estrogen and they shrink and go away. I have had a mess of them along with a mass on my ovary, I chose Lupron treatment, it puts me in menopause NO PERIODS!!! YAY, for 3 month time frames and everything, cysts, masses, fibroids are shrinking away. Laser surgery is coming for them next spring 2007 too. Lupron is expensive but to avoid surgery it might be worth it.
