Your body is making the preparations for birth.
The cervix begins to thin and dilate. You may go into labour in a day or a week. There is no set timetable. I was 4cm dilated for 2 weeks before birth. Often the thinning, etc will start and then cease.
Everything sounds normal. Often labour for your 1st child will be long. Your pains may start before the birth canal is fully prepared.
If I was you however I would make sure you have your bag packed, and be ready to go. IT WON"T BE LONG!!!

that's the great thing about labor! you could go in a day or two or it could be weeks! i was an inch dilated and 8o% thinned out for three weeks before i went into labor!
and i only went into labor because my doctor scrapped my cervix!
the biggest signs are your water breaking or leaking, loss of your mucus plug, back pain/cramp like pains that come at REGULAR intervals or what's called lightening (this too can happen any where from a week before you deliver)
due dates are a tricky thing too, babies can come two weeks before or after your due date!
don't worry your body will let you know when it's time to go to the hospital and if you go too soon that's alright too! it's better to go in and be wrong about it then wait to long and have your baby at home!
best of luck!

Wow, how lucky you are. It took me less than a week with both of my kids after my cervix started to thin. I was told to go for a walk, eat spicy foods, and dance. Those were all well and good, but the things that really helped was having sex. As long as your doctor says it's ok go at it, because you won't get a chance again for a while. Good luck.

Sorry to steal your joy. I just had my baby 2 weeks ago. I lost the mucus plug, dialated 3 1/2 cms and she still didn't come tills 3wks after that. it just depends. And don't try all those dumb home remedys that are "suppose to put you in labor early" I tried everything under the sun and the crap doesn't work. Those babies come when they want to. Besides you don't want to rush it. Let your baby have enough time do develop fully and get a mature liver so that you want face jaundice. Good luck.

There's no real way to tell. But if your due date is the 22nd i'd guess you will go into labour in the next few weeks, and most likely spontaneously. Yay! at least you know your body is doing what it needs to and you probably won't need to be induced. Also, your labour may be shorter as a lot of the work is getting done ahead of time! hooray! good luck!

It really depends on the individuals body. Thinning is thinning, and it can take awhile. If you have your baby before the 22nd, I'd be surprised! And age has nothing to do with how quickly your cervix thins! Good luck to you, and CONGRATULATIONS!!! By the way..........why are you having a baby so young for?

Well hunny it will be soon.Go out there and walk.Have sex do anything and you probably will start real soon. The fact that it is thinning will help.I know that if you sit there and twist your nipples in between you fingers you can start a contraction that way.Sometimes that might be all you need.Good luck and I hope all goes well. Also don't be scared about being 18 you'll do fine!

Sorry to say but it really depends on your body. Some woman go fast some women go slow.
I was 1 cm dilated for two weeks, then went to 2cm and stayed that way for a week.
