Astros trading there two top pitching prospects and there only good CF for a guy who's in the last year of his contract and who has more losses than wins during the last 4 years? Them signing Carlos Lee, who's nearing 300 lbs. when Chris Duncan of STL had a better OBP and SLG percentage? And what about the Cubs signing Pinella? He'll quit mid-season finally figuring out why the Cubs are the worst team in the majors.

I didnt name any Cardinal mistakes because they havent made any. They signed Kip Wells at a good, cheap price. Adam Kennedy will solve our second base prob without giving 100 mill like some other idiot teams will.

The best move so far has been the Cardinals giving Chris Carpenter a contract extension through 2011. He was due to be a free agent after 2007. Also Cardinals giving Adam Kennedy a 3 year deal should stop the revolving door they have had at second base the past five seasons since Fernando Vina left.

I can't think of anything the Astros have done that was good. They gave Roy Oswalt an extension for I think five seasons but that may have been before the season ended, I don't remember. And I guess them not talking Bagwell out of retirement is a good move.

The Brewers resigned Craig Counsell to a two year deal. He's not great, but he's pretty good. I can't think of anything else they've done.

The Cubs best move was giving Aramis Ramirez an extension for five more seasons. Also signing Lou Piniella should be good. He should bring some fire to the team. Kerry Wood was a poor signing with his injury problems. Unless they make him the closer, in that case it could turn out to be a great move. By having him pitch only a few innings a week he could actually make it through a full season without getting injured. Soriano was a good deal for the next few seasons, but after that I'm not so sure. He's 31 and his prime seasons will end before his contract is half over, and $18 million a season is a lot for a guy whose career is on the downside (I'm talking about when he's 35 and beyond, not now).

As for the Reds and Pirates, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that they've done to improve.

I haven't bothered looking up the transactions that have taken place this offseason, I'm just going from what I can remember having happened so it's completely possible I have left out something.

The only way to find out if the moves make sense is from the results they produce at the end of the season. General managers have their reasons for choosing one player over another.

As for Piniella, he's won over 1,500 games as a manager, won the Manager of the Year twice, and led the Devil Rays to a position other than last in the AL East. The guy knows how to manage a team.

Repectfully the offseason isn't done yet. If I understand correctly, the Cardinals still only have three pitchers in their starting rotation, one of whom is Kip Wells who I'm not sure counts. If the offseason ended today, the Cardinals would have been fools for not finding good starting pitching replacements, so I wouldn't gloat quite yet. However there is still time left.

We'll see how the teams end up.

well, its obvious you're a cardinal fan. The cubs vastly improved themselves by getting a manager who's not lifeless like baker was, getting a leadoff hitter who's a threat to go 40/40 again, by resigning ramirez, and by shoring up their rotation, not to mention getting a 2nd baseman who isn't a liability in the field, a shortstop (in the maddux deal) who actually can hit a bit, and putting wood in the pen to either setup or close. the davis deal in milwaukee is a wash, the reds got better thru the rule 5 draft, pittsburgh is well, pittsburgh, and st.louis has to GAPING holes in their rotation that haven't been filled yet, hope you enjoyed the series win bird boy, it aint gonna happen again anytime soon.

the sole flow the Jays have made so a ways this offseason is to sign Matt Clement to a minor-league deal. He replaced right into a good pitcher, even though it incredibly is been 2 years on condition that he even pitched contained in the majors so which you would be able to desire to ask your self approximately his effectiveness. the main painful flow replaced into seeing A.J. Burnett sign with the Yankees. i'm unlikely to badmouth the Yankees for signing him, nevertheless, because of the fact they're doing what it takes to win. It replaced right into a good flow on their section, and that i wish him the final in manhattan.

The Cardinals locking up Chris Carpenter is a very good move

Cubbies have Soriano and Ramirez. Maybe they will rise from the ashes,... to .500. Didn't need much more in the NL Central in 2006.

The cubs resigning aramis ramirez made a lot of sense...even though he's a slight liability at defense.

The Astros did make a crazy move trading Andy Pettitte. But I am a Yankees fan, so thank you.
