Separation of powers is a political doctrine lower than which the legislative, govt and judicial branches of authorities are kept different, to ward off abuse of ability. This US type of separation of powers is extensively common as "assessments and balances.

the Executive enforces the laws
the Judicial makes sure both the laws made are both valid and the execution is proper
