Last year, there was a second grader that wore a complicated mohawk to school everyday and he was very sweet and well adjusted. I think that it depends on the kid and how they are raised. If, the punk haircut is intended for an unruly, rude child with no manners, then no to the hairdo. But, there are lots of great kids out there that have crazy hairdos. The only drawback is that some schools will say no to punk haircuts in elementary schools.

First, think of the message your child will be sending his peers. Social interactions between kids and adults are much different and the complexity is another animal as well. Kids deal with peer pressure and pseudo-cool images to maintain a position within the social structure perceived by their peers.
Personally, I'd look into other styles. In the end you are wanting to do the best for your child but your child will not realize that. Your decisions need to be based on the idea of being for the greater good.
hope this helps

When my son was seven he got his hair cut like McGuyver, in a mullet. Did he think it was cool then? Oh yeah! Does he think now that he looked stupid then? Oh hell yeah! I say let them do what they want to their hair, it's just hair and it's theirs. But I will say that depending on where you live, you might be setting the child up for public prejudice or less than preferential treatment from his or her teachers. Think about how it will affect the child overall and then come up with some kind of compromise if what they want is too far out. For the record, I also have a daughter with blue hair.

is the child asking for one, or is it the parent that wants to do it? what defines a "punk haircut" anyway? For any child, i would suggest a low maintenance hairstyle. Most 7 year olds do not even care about this anyway!

it's just a haircut, most of the kids i know that have the same hair are friendly & confident.
you're the parent, it's still up to you.
besides you're gonna be the one paying $3 to $5 hairgel.
FYI it normally lasts a day or two
:-)

Depends on how "punk" it is and how conservative the area you live in is and if it's really driven by him or some other influence.
If it's reasonable, it wouldn't cause him to be ostracized and the idea came from him, I say go for it.

Well, my 9 year old had a mohawk, probably more of a fauxhawk this year. The offensive line of his football team did it. He loved it, it made him feel more of a part of his peers, and it increased his self esteem. And like everyone said, "it's hair, it'll grow back."

no way! a punk haircut is for someone old enough to decide that they want to rebel ON THEIR OWN, not something that anyone forces on them.
