Because conservatives cannot reconcile their theocratic tendencies with their naive belief in the goodness of capitalism. They live a perfomative contradiction by participating in the practice that is destroying the religious significance of the day.

Because corporations are inherently good they cannot be blamed for sucking the spiritual lifeblood out of the festival. Therefore conservatives are left with the only other option - people who want to live in a democracy instead of a theocracy and believe freedom of religion includes freedom from religion.

Since those same people also pose a threat to the shaky foundations of Christian "truth" they make great scapegoats. They also make a fantastic red herring that boosts ratings for conservative pundits, while distracting the kool-aid drinking masses from the corporate looting that is slowly outsourcing their jobs and turning them into debt slaves that work 70+ hours a week.

For something to be destroyed it must exist in the first place. What is Christmas? The birthday of a savior? Um not quite. Jesus' birth is referred to as occuring shortly after the jewish new year, sometime near the celebration of sukkot. This would have been in september according to our calendar 2000 years ago.
So why was December 25th chosen? Some pope--I forget which one choice the date in order to bring together a pagan druid tradition and christianity. He sought to ameliorate the differences between the groups and saw a common holiday as the best way to do it. You know that tree? It is a druidic symbol.

Or maybe you mean a time of giving that everyone can enjoy? Well then it seems capitalism enriches christmas. A gift is only valuable when it somehow increases the wealth of the recepient. Capitalism reinforces christmas then, allowing it to bloom to give better and better gifts.

Capitalism became a part of Christmas . a long time ago but liberals DID destroy the spirit of Christmas. They got the carols out of school , mangers removed from public buildings, even the astronauts were sued because one read the Christmas story from space. You can have a popular figure ( Santa ) represent Chrismas But not the person CHRIST who's birthday it is. Now you know how liberals stole Christmas.

Not all liberals, just the ultra-liberals. Like the ACLU. They have a history of secular actions and they are the driving force behind the war on Christmas.

Easier to blame liberals. The true meaning of Christmas has been perverted for a long time. It is now an orgy of who gets what and who gives what, it is sad. Not everyone is like that though, so you cant say Christmas is destroyed.

Capitalism is destroying alot more than Christmas.
It used to be a good thing when everyone had a chance at it,
now, it's just a game for the wealthy.
