A relationship..throughout the song he says "it's too late to fight...it ends tonight"...and that's it's best if for them to leave him alone...ect. Honestly it sounds like he's dealing with another person and not himself beacuse he says that "it's better that i see it through your eyes". He's glad it's over too, he's relieved.

It depends on what Ur talking about: I've seen the video MILLIONS of times, but In the end, It was dark, then it turned to light. I guess because he was fighting with his girlfriend, then sung "It Ends Tonight" and it came to light because he finally apologized. well the song is talking about their battles with depression.... so "ending when darkness turns to light" means that the depression ended when the darkness in their lives got better.
