I have never heard of pregnant women being given antidepressents while pregnant. I work with doctors, and they are human like the rest of us. I would get a 2nd opinion. Anti-depressents are not approved for use by pregnant women, since they do not know the effects and enough testing has not been done (what woman would be a pregnant guinea pig). The only time an anti-depressent should be prescribed is if you have a severe case of depression and if the risks of taking the medication are worth it. So I would definetely get a second opinion.

HI, just a thought. Prozac is a SSRIs (type of med) that is rated C that shows no increased risk of congenital abnormalities. However, risk vs. benefit should be weighed-choosing the product with the fewest metabolies and shortest half life.
Prozac has a very long half-life and it is No longer considered to be a safe SSRI, if you MUST take meds, which sounds like you really aren't sure, ask about the shortest half life of the SSRI's. These would be eiter Lexapro or Celexa. As always-- Educate yourself!

I'd get a second opinion. I dont fool around with drugs when iam pregnant, and i certainly wouldnt feel comfortable telling someone else to take them unless its was unavoidable.
Women get sad and mopey and emotional and blue when pregnant, it doesnt mean theyre depressed, it means their hormones are crazy... like every other pregnant person.
Go see another doctor. Rememebr, doctors make money on perscriptions. In fact, OB's offices get reps in all the time from drug companies, giving out meds for depression and morning sickness. It happen one while I was waiting for my appointment. I have hippy midwives, so they turned the rep away, but still. Usually there are TONS of pills sitting around that they perscribe because the reps give them bonuses.
its sickening.

Some of those types are ok and some are not. It depends on whether or not it's an MAOI inhibitor or a SSRI. I'm assuming you told your doctor you're pregnant and that they prescribed the one that is appropriate. However, if you don't think you have a problem that needs treating, don't fill the prescription!

I believe there was just an article on this. check out www.babycenter.com and do a search on Prozac. It should help answer your questions.

there is a list of depression symptoms on many websites, if you have some of them or most of them then maybe you need meds but if you don't then get a second opinion froma different doctor.
