Are certain MP3 players capable of downloading Word documents or text files of any sort to transfer to another computer (like a jump drive)? If so, are they all capable of it or just certain ones? Thanks!

The player I have is a Samsung YP-U2JXB. If someone could tell me if text files are compatible with it, I would really appreciate it.

Most Mp3 players are capable of storing data as well.
You can buy a cheap USB MP3 Player for about £10 now.
It will be perfect for storing Word documents and text files.
in fact it will hold anyting as long as you have sufficient memory.
and being USB means you can use it on any XP PC without installing any drivers or software. It will be recognised as a new hard drive by the O/S.
just Drag and drop!

Just found this Link. YES you can use it as a Flash drive.

There are certain brands that have a built in text viewer. There are many that could hold a text file, but you would not be able to view it from the player itself. Almost any HD player that can be used as a mass storage device, would be able to hold a text file for you to take to another computer, but unless the player has a text viewer, it would only be for back-up purposes. I have an Achos Jukebox 20GB that is about 5 years old and I use it for all kinds of files. I just can't see them on the player, once I connect the player to a computer, the folder opens with all the files that are on it and I can move them wherever I want. Hope this helps.

KC is right. You can use any mp3 players a storage device to move the files from PC to PC, you just can't open the files on the mp3 player.

Personally I don't bother with mp3 players because I play mp3's on my moblie phone (Nokia 6230) with MMC card support, there is no need to bother.

The IPod is, I know that for sure, as long as the MP3 player is read as a hard drive and not a playback storage unit you should be able to, you'll just have to look at each one to figur out how it reads the data stored on it.
