What is sure is that the battery gets emptied by something. The symptoms described are normal and indicates a problem within the Ignition system. Were there any prior indications that something was wrong such as other lights on the dashboard lighting up unexpectedly and randomly? What does you manuel say about troubleshooting?
We start with the battery. How old is it and how old is the car?. If the battery is fairly new (< 5 yrs by my standards), then probably not the problem.
Normally, if you are lucky, it might be a chip inside the console (check manuel for location. If burnt, replace: cost ±1$), faulty wiring, water getting into the system. Might be the spark plugs or their connections (been there, done that). Worse case scenario, the alternator. You would bring it into a garage that can do a check on this system by a simple hook up and electical analysis.
Tell the mechanic the full details beforehand and ask for an estimate.
Good luck

Like everyone else says, it is more than likely the alternator or the belt that runs it, BUT check the fuse for the charging system first! Look in the owners manual and find the fuse for it. I have seen a person spend a lot of money on an alternator and all to find out it was the fuse. More than likely that isnt the problem, but its worth a shot!

cheapest problem to fix would be a loose battery connection or bad battery or alternator. If it is simply the connections or bad wire, check the owners manual to see how to delete the trouble lights/codes (re-set computer) on many cars it is as simple as disconnecting negative cable for a short time. do not do any checks with engine running. Check manual for safety guidelines and suggestions.

sounds like you alternator has quit working either because of the belt or an internal problem.when the alt.quits it starts draining your battery which is why you lights are getting dim.anyway it will have to be fixed because if your truck is fuel injected it will stop running when the battery gets weak enough!!!!!

examine you connections on your battery and altenator. must be a foul connection. Take them to a parts save and function them appeared at. they ought to have the testors there to do it. If this is not the battery/altenator, then you truly ought to have a short someplace on your wiring it truly is draining the battery and by no skill allowing the altenator to fee. examine you belts also.

sounds like your alternator has gone bad and the battery went dead. check your belts first you may have broken that belt. you can take your alternator to auto zone or advanced auto and they will check it for free.
