You can get 300 jellybeans for x dollars.
So you would get n jellybeans for 0.50 dollars.

Doing this as similar ratios:
300 ... n
----- = ---
..x .....0.50

Cross multiplying you get:
150 = nx

n = 150/x

It depends on x, but you can by 150/x jellybeans for 0.50.

For example if you could buy 300 jellybeans for 5 dollars, you could buy (150/5) = 30 jellybeans for 0.50.

Let y= the number of jelly beans at 1/2 dollar
300/x= y/(1/2)
y= 150 /x
So if you buy 300 jelly beans for 3$, then you can buy
150/3= 50 jellybeans for 50 cents = 1/2 dollar

300 jellybeans for x dollars
so, you can get 300/x jellybeans for one dollar.
Since you have 50 cents (half dollar), you divide that quantity by two.
(300/x) * (1/2) = (150/x) jellybeans!
