Sabah is Malaysian and they deserve it because they're doing a much better job of preserving that area than this country ever could.
Malaysian tourism numbers are the best in Asia because they take care of their natural resources.
Forget Sabah, the Philippines has jurisdiction over 7107 islands at low tide, plus the property allan y talks about and that's it!
If we could only take care of what we have here, that would be wonderful, but the sad fact is that foreign NGO's and foreign investors who set up expensive resorts, seem to be the only ones taking care of this environment. Can anyone give me the name of a local owned resort with a 500 metre fishing exclusion zone? I will gladly shake their hand.
Can't the local people understand that there is an alternative to total rape of all resources for a fast buck. Tourism is the answer, look at Malaysia's income, tourism is the number one income for the country!!!!
So many kids in this country, even now, will grow up without seeing thousands of species which were around 20 years ago, unless they look at pictures in a book, normally produced by a foreign NGO.
I recently spotted a member of staff in a resort throwing rocks at a red squirell, very rare, and the only ones I have ever seen in this country have been in Palawan. I told him his kids would have to look at pictures of the animal if he kept trying to kill them. So sad that someone could do that to a harmless member of what's left of the wildlife here.
Until this country conquers poverty by educating people about contraception and family planning ( bugger the catholic church) then this country cannot even take care of itself, there's not enough food or work in this place for the people already here.
Apologies for being outspoken, but I love this country and it's being destroyed by overpopulation, everyone has to eat and that's why everything is being killed.
Even the Palawan crocodile has been eaten into extinction, and the bayawaks and pawikans will be next!
The hell with other territories, take care of this one first!........

Sabah was claimed by Malaysia. The Philippines has yet to revive the claim that it belongs to the Philippine because of historical reasons. It is a known fact that the Real Sultan of Sabah is a Filipino, he was forced out by the Malaysians who claimed Sabah. Sadly, the Oil and Gas income in Sabah only goes to the Malaysian Government and none goes to the Philippine Government.

Sabah is part of the Malaysian territory and not the Philippines. Historically Sabah was part of the Sultanate of Sulu (southern tip of the Philippines). Sabah (North Borneo) was given by the Sultan of Brunei to the Sultan of Sulu as a reward for helping Brunei in stopping a rebellion. When the British occupied Malaysian region, the British North Borneo Company leased Sabah from the Sultan of Sulu who needed money and arms to resist the Spaniards in the Philippines. This leased continued until Malaysia became independent in 1963. Malaysia then included Sabah as part of its Federation. Philippines through President Diosdado Macapagal (Father of current President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) tried to claim back Sabah in behalf of the Sultan of Sulu. This claim strained the relationship of Malaysia and the Philippines that almost tipped to a regional war. Reservists of the Philippine Army were called back to the barracks for training. This issue continued on until the time of President Ramos in 1992.
Though it is not clear if Malaysia still pays the Sultan of Sulu for the lease of Sabah.
