Rudy's? Yuck. Don't even try Grady's neither. Everything is too salty.

There was a place in San Antonio called Bob's Smokehouse, but the owner died a few years back, then his daughter took over, and it was never the same. That was the best. It usually won first place yearly as best BBQ in town.

Now, I just use my pit in my yard. I know a coupple of the guys that worked there, and they let me in on their secret, so I make the best now.

I've tried other places, but Bob's was the best. I come in a distant second, I just don't have a 40 foot pit to cook on.

Reasons: They never used a slicer, always hand sliced with a knife. The potato salad was great. The sausage would pop with juices on the first slice. The ribs would fall off the bone, and you still wanted to lick the bones clean. The only thing I didn;t like was the sauce. It was too thin and not enough spice for me.

My pawpaw's, he's here in Texas. Seriously, his is the best, but when I have to go to a restaurant I go to one of the ones listed below:

Sonny Bryan's, Dallas TX - classic bbq
Sammy Walker's, Rowlett, TX, great food (sausage especially) personal touch - owners check how your meal is
Dickey's, Dallas TX, great brisket or pulled pork, best coleslaw and their baked potato casserole are the BEST sides. They've been in business 63 years, they're doing something right.

I like Pappas BBQ, Houston TX.
Luther's also Houston,TX is decent.
There's actually some little mom and pop places that are really good too, but I can't recall any names.
