I disagree. Technology isn't always safe, especially when there could be human error. I would rather go to my obgyn and have her/him, who is a well-trained professional, do a thorough exam. When my health is involved, I want someone I can trust to let me know what is wrong/right with me. I am not trained to look for std's, or pregnancy, or cancerous cells, and most people aren't, therefor, I would rather be uncomfortable with my doctor looking at my privates for 5 minutes, than to do it myself.

No. And I doubt that "most women are extremely embarrassed when recieving a pelvic exam." Why it should be embarrasing, I have no idea.
There's too much technology involved in pregnancy and childbirth already, and that's the crappiest reason for more of it that I've ever heard.
I'd find "a small disposable camera, etc" expensive, silly, time-wasting, and more of a pain than a brief poking.
Sounds like an awful lot of work to spare a few ill-educated teen-agers, or older prigs, a few foolish blushes.
All that said, I've never seen a reason that tests for yeast infections and similar require a pelvic exam, given that one does not normally use a catheter for a urine test -- most women are capable of swabbing their own vaginas, I'd think.

YOur right many women do feel this way. I am one of the few, that dont. And even though i dont its still no walk in the park. lolol BUt as for it being done at home or with a camera. Much more is envolved than a look see. hehe. To scrape the cervix for a lab sample would be hard by yourself. and it would be impossible for you to check your own ovaries. And ovarian cancer. which is not detectable with a papsmear. Is one of the top killers of women. That is why during your pap., the doctor wwill insert two finger and feel from inside and push down on your lower abdomen. He is checking your ovaries for any abnormalities. Hope this helps you understand why it is important that Dr.s still be envolved with this unpleasant aspect of being a woman.

I'd describe pelvic assessments as bloodless. The devices are bloodless, your legs placing out are bloodless, and the surgeon is as far-off as someone would potentially be. (I am now not complaining approximately that. I have an understanding of the document retaining professionalism) I've under no circumstances rather felt traumatized via an examination like that, to me it is consistently been only a scientific system. Never felt soreness both. Kinda desire they might hot the devices a little generally tho.

Camera? They don't need to look, they need to feel. They feel for lumps, bumps, tight spots, indentations, swollen ovaries, etc.
Ultrasounds are very expensive and unnecessary in most cases.
Neither of the methods you recommend would be successful in gathering cells from the cervix, which is what a pap smear requires.
