As much as I like Neil Peart -- and I've been a fan for decades -- I'd have to say I think Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater is even better, but I'd also say Neil Peart was probably one of his strongest influences. Listen to any Dream Theater CD and you'll be blown away by Mike Portnoy's playing. He plays the double bass drums so fast it's like a roll sometimes, and plays such elaborate rhythms on top of that you'd think he had more than two arms. He also knows when to back off and use a "less is more" approach for contrast. The guy can play anything.

Many great drummers but I like Neal Peart(Rush)and Phil
Collins(Genesis) I went to a concert in November and heard
Chaka Khan's new drummer I don't remember his
name. But he received a 5 minute ovation,he rocked the house.

My fave drummer....Sully Erna, the lead singer of Godsmack. He started playing when he was 3 and studied under John Bohnam of Led Zepplin and Neil Peart of Rush when he was a teen. He is awesome!

yes to the Neil Pert and just for Uniqueneses sake;
Ringo Starr (for the love of god, he did Helter Skelter!)
although the other person is right, a lot of good drummers bit the dust a long time ago, Moon and Bonham are legends

Though I am not a huge fan...the drummer from the band Rush is quite amazing...as is the drummer from Pink Floyd...both bands have pretty crazy arrangments and those drummers deliver, for sure.

Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden is an awesome drummer. It sounds like he's got 4 or 5 arms behind that set.

Lars Ulrich is also very good.

Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden. He plays on every album except the first two and unlike most drummers, does it without using a double bass drum pedal. He thinks it's "undrummerish".
