I had such a hard time breastfeeding my first child that I gave up after a month of trying. But with my second child it just came natural and its been so easy. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think babies do nurse differently. They all have different needs, styles, and personalities. There is also so much pressure on first time moms and you are often unsure about your parenting style so you try all sorts of combos of different ones.

With my first, I did continue nursing, but the first few months were very hard and her doctor was not helpful at all. I didn't have other support either. I started supplementing when she was around 3 weeks old because the doctor told me she was not gaining enough weight. She nursed constantly...was a very slow nurser (she was premature) and would sometimes fall asleep while nursing. I just did whatever the doctor said and lost alot of my supply because I started supplementing so soon. Eventually, I got back to more breastfeeding, but it was never 100%.

With #2, I had alot of support and experience. I read alot about breastfeeding and was determined to make it work. My daughter helped too because she was such a great nurser! she was so efficient, didn't cry constantly like #1, and it just seemed so easy. She was also not gaining weight as quickly as her doctor wanted, but I ignored those "suggestions" this time around. Babies are all different so why is it so hard to realize they can grow differently too?
So even though I had a toddler to care for too, breastfeeding #2 was alot easier. I was a much more relaxed mom.

Yes, the exact same thing happened to me. My son wanted nothing to do with nursing, and being a first time mom and stressed out wasn't helping either. The second time around everything was so easy and natural, my daughter is now 6 months and still breastfeeding.

yes, this has happened to me. i have three children and was unsuccessful with the first two. but i guess persistence is key because it came easy as 1...2...3 with my third. dont give up. usually peoples excuse for not breast feeding is because of how painful it seems at first, but they dont realize if they stick it out a couple of weeks you dont even notice the child is suckling. breastfeeding actually takes away the soreness since the baby is relieving all the pressure of milk built up.

My first was great. 12 months and then we weaned. My second wanted NOTHING to do with it. So... 4 months later we stopped. Then with my third everything was great again and at 12 months we started weaning. Now I am pregnant with my fourth and am wondering how this one will go. It is weird huh??

Yes that is normal thing to happen. Each baby is different and lots of the time babies don't know what to do after birth and it becomes very frustrating. Congrats!
