.(x^4 - 1) / (x^2 + 1)?
=[(x^2 -1)(x^2+1)]/(x^2+1)
= x^2-1
X^2-1 is the quotient, 0 is the remainder

First factor the numerator which is:

(x^2+1)(x^2-1)

You could now cancel out the x^2+1 and get x^2-1

x^2-1 is the quotient and the remainder is zero
