I took care of them but about 5 years ago they got infected again so i took the piercings out. I would like to get my ears pierced again but is it likely they would get infected again?

You might want to check with a dermatologist first. It is entirely probable that you are allergic to something in the metal - most likely nickel, but even the "good" stuff can cause problems if you're allergic.

Again, check with the doctor first, but you may be able to use surgical steel. If it's an allergy, it won't matter how careful you are. Your ears reacting to the metal is the equivalent of your body rejecting a donated organ. The most sterile conditions in the world won't change the reaction, if that is indeed the cause.

Good luck!

if you do get your ears repierced, go to a tattoo parlor, because they are going to be the most sanitary place to get your ears pierced. I worked at Claire's for a couple of years, and that stuff ain't as sanitary as they make it out to be. Plus, there's something about a boppy high school or college girl mutilating my body that I don't find appealing at all.

Anyhow, the tattoo/piercing artist at the shop uses the most sanitary of equipment, and they don't pierce you with the same "gun" that they use on everyone at Claire's or The Icing. The piercer at the shop will pierce you with a 14-16 guage hyperdermic needle and then place the earring in your new hole.

Don't put alcohol on the ears, it will dry it out and take longer to heal. Peroxide eats away at the metal, and it gets into your bloodstream, causing infection. Mild soap and warm water are sufficient, as is the stuff they DO give you at Claire's (the tattoo shop will have something similar).

Just as long as you take care of them and follow the directions completely, you should be fine. Look for nickel-free jewelry or hypoallergenic jewelry for your ears. If you still get another infection, you just may be like me. My skin is uber-sensitive. I can't wear even 24K gold in my ears (and that's the purest form of gold you can get from a jewelry store. Any purer, and it'd be too soft to use as jewelry).

Good luck.

its possible, you may be allergic to the nickle in the earrings. If you want to try again, try with nickle free studs, or at least 18 kt gold hoops. My sis got hers pierced with plastic studs a while back, but I don'tt hink they make them any more
