FIRST OF ALL, OUTLINE YOUR EYES ALL THE WAY WITH A BLACK EYELINER. MAKE SURE THAT THEY DO NOT GO OUT OF YOUR EYE LINES. ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED OUTLINING THEM, USE A LIGHT SPARKLY WHITE OR CREAMY COLOR AND PUT THAT ON TOP OF YOUR EYELIDS ALL THE WAY TILL IT REACHES THE BOTTOM OF YOUR BROWS. REMEMBER ALWAYS USE THE LIGHTEST COLOR FIRST!!!! AFTER THAT IS DONE, USE A LIGHT GRAY AND START FROM THE LID AND GO UP TOWARDS YOUR BROWS LEAVING ENOUGH SPACE TO SHOW A PEEK OF THAT SHIMMER WHITE YOU PUT ON. ONCE THAT IS DONE, IF YOU HAVE A DARKER CHARCOAL GRAY (DARK) PUT THAT ON YOUR LIDS ALSO AND GO UP UNTIL IT PEEKS THE LIGHT GREY SHADOW. ONCE THAT IS FINAL, YOU ADD THE BLACK OR DARKEST SHADE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE. BLEND THAT IN UNTIL IT IS A DESIRED COLOR OF DARKNESS YOU'D LIKE. REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO START WITH OUTLINING THE EYES WITH BLACK LINER FIRST THEN MOVE ON WITH THE LIGHTEST COLOR SHADOW THEN TO THE DARKEST. REMEMBER THERE WILL BE LAYERS AND LAYERS OF SHADOW SINCE YOU ARE APPLYING IT AT DIFFERENT TIMES WITH A DESIRED LOOK. IT WILL GIVE YOU A SMOKING SEXY LOOK!!!

What I found works really well is a combination of neutral and grey - if I wear makeup I go for the smokey eyed look and this is how I achieve it: (I like to think its subtle - but I only use it at night!)
Cover the entire lid with a light shimmery colour (cream or peach - and not to thick!)
Cover the lower lid with a darker shimmery colour (beige or purply sort of colour - once again not to thick)
Run a line of the darker colour (grey or something similar shimmery) along the top of the lid near your eyelashes, making sure it is thicker at the end of your eye then it is at the end near your nose.
Then run a thin line of eyeliner (black) over the top of this and blend.
Mascara can be added if the look is too subtle.
It's really hard to describe without a picture, hope this makes sense!!!

I don't use gray or black. It looks unnatural on me. I have a cream eyeshadow quad from Maybelline. The colors are ivory, light brown, medium brown, and dark brown. I put the ivory on my browbones and inner corners. Then, I put the medium brown on my lids (lashes to creases). I use the blunt end of tweezers to apply the dark brown on my creases and along my bottom eyelashes. I then smudge with my pinkie. Last, I apply black mascara to my top lashes. If you're in a hurry, just apply Revlon Eyeglide in Taupe around your eyes.

You don't want to do a smokey eye in the daytime. No matter how you do it you will look like a hooker. Keep that look just for nighttime. Keep it simple and clean in the daytime, very fresh and wide awake.

Just use a lighter eyeliner and smudge it with softer, more subtle shades. Go with neutrals even.....and use a soft brown mascara. I do smokey eyes with lighter, almost pastel shades and it works well.

I like to use a brown smoky eye for day. Get some gold, tan, and brown eyeshadows and try that.
