define and compare cations, anions, monatomic ions, and polyatomic ions.

cations are positively charged
anions are negatively charge
monatomic ions are ions made of only one atom. ions are electrically charged atoms. (single charged atom)
polyatomic ions are ions made of molecules (charged molecule)

Here we go and Ion is an atom that either lacks electrons or has extra electrons. If it has extra it is negatively charged and is called an anion, the "n" in anion can help you remember negative. If it is missing electrons it is positively charged and called a cation the, the "t" looks kinda like a plus sign and that should help you remember. From there polyatomic Ions are compound containing more than one atom that form an overall positive or negative charge like Sulfate of Nitrate. Monatomic is an Ion containing 1 atom. That should do it for you.
