I have the following problem occasionaly while stopping in traffic the car will idle at almost full revs, If I turn off the ignition and restart the engine it will then idle at the normal speed, it is now stating to happen 2 or 3 times a day and will only get worse. Does anyone have any experience of this or can anyone suggest where to start. Thanks in advance.

Sell it and buy a big gas guzzler SUV. Don't worry about the miles per gallon it is only money you cant take it with you. Plus they are safer in a crash...... Range rover versus ford fiesta head on crash = no competition

I dont understand the place you're from yet Hyundai vern is unparalleled in Europe. yet Ford fiesta diesel is probably going one in each and every of the acceptable promoting vehicles in europe and is a physically powerful automobile. You question is quite vaigue, whilst procuring a automobile diesel evaluate : how previous is the automobile and how many miles has it executed with this you will see that how lots the automobile has been used , avarage milage is 10-12000 in step with 3 hundred and sixty 5 days so a automobile of five years previous with 50000 miles is a physically powerful purchase as its no longer been ued too lots. however the comparable automobile with one hundred thousand miles is over used , you get the belief. Overal stick to ford fiesta , yet once you from some united states of america that likes to force an previous human beings automobile purchase tha verna thingy.

Sam, sounds like the ECU (basically the brain of the engine) has gone or there is a fault on a wire somewhere. take it to a Ford dealer and they will sort it out for you! My brother had a problem with his 2000 Focus (diesel) as it kept cutting out on the motorway and the ECU was sh@gged. I think it cost him about £150 all in.

Hope this helps.

well, its either the ECU, or it could just be a dirty contact on teh actuating arm... give it a blast with WD40 and operate teh lever manually several times...(engine off) and try again..if it is the ECU this wont have had any effect, but it cost nothing, and you havent lost anything bar a squirt of WD40. throttle mechanisms get dirty and clogged with crap... as do the switches which link to the ECU.

it could be a fault with the electronic choke i would get this looked into by a dealer as if this continues it will cause alot of problems for you with the engine.

The governor in the ECU (electronic control unit) will be faulty and you probably need the ECU replacing.

on your model fiesta it may not have a throttle cable it will have wats called a fly bye throttle on it, basically its done electronically and that's where your fault will be, sometimes it may just be dirty contacts which you should spray with WD40 or similar
