I don't think there is an issue of volition there. Not that they want to be straight, but they simply are what they are, and because that's what they are, they like it and want to be that way.

Hmmm, interesting question. I'm assuming by the question that you are straight. Why did you CHOOSE to be straight when you had a choice when you were young to choose either to take the GAY pill or the STRAIGHT pill, right? I don't think gays/lesbians really chose that lifestyle, and many of them over a period of time have accepted who they are in life, and they can't just choose to be something they're not.

I didn't "want" to be be gay it's how I ended up. I had feelings for people of the same sex before I even knew that it was possible to be gay.
