I assume you are taking log to the base 10. Then:

log (x+9) - log x = 1
log[(x+9)/x] = 1
(x+9)/x = 10
x = 1

log (x+9) - log x=1
log [(x+9)/x] = log 10^1 (log 10^1 = log 10)
(x+9)/x = 10 /*x
x+9 = 10x
x-10x = -9
-9x = -9 /:-9
x = 1

check:
log (x+9) - log x=1
x = 1
log (1+9) - log 1 = 1
log 10 - log (10^0) = 1
log 10^1 - 0 = 1
1-0 = 1
1 = 1
OK => x = 1
