to a month old infant?

Well, ideally you should breast feed EXCLUSIVELY for only 6 months but a lot of modern mothers dont breast feed exclusively.

It's fine to mix the formula & breast feeding but remember to get formula for the age of your child, if one month old normal or a one month old premature baby.

p.s.--> you should cup feed the baby to avoid nipple confusion and not use the bottle with the nipple.

It is much better not to.

Supplimenting particularly before 6 weeks can drastically reduce your supply or cause it to dry up altogether.

Bottles can cause nipple confusion.

Formula prevents the abosption of certain vitamins in breastmilk. While this isn't a problem in formula fed babies as there is enough extra vitamins and minerals in formula, when you mix the two it can cause problems.

Also switching back and forth is more likely to cause stomach upset.

However, that being said, any breastmilk is better than none, I suppose.

However it is worth sticking with breastfeeding, it will get easier. Maybe you just need some support, contact your local La Leche League www.llli.org

Depends on what your breastfeeding goals are and how many bottles a day you plan to use. The less you nurse, the less milk you make. An occasional bottle will probably not really effect the milk supply...many bottles will. Also, some moms are prone to clogged ducts and mastitis when they do not empty as they should. Frequent bottles will probably lead to earlier weaning from the breast...for some moms this is OK...others want to nurse with a high supply until the baby is much older.

well, for me i had no choice. I was gonna be one of those strict breastfeed only untill 12 months moms but couldnt. At my daughters first appt, she had lost alot of weight for a baby her size. They had me pump to see how much breast milk she was getting. Guess what not enough. so they had me supplement with bottle feedings. And suggested i pump between feedings to try and increase my milk supply. Didnt work..I cried i felt so bad. So for the first 6 months i would breast feed and then top her off with a bottle. I felt like even if she was only getting about 2 oz. (the most i was ever able to produce) it was better than no breast milk at all. And thank fully she was never nipple confused and never preferred one over the other.

Yes this is completely alright, and actually common. My son had 1/2 breast milk and 1/2 formula at night to help him sleep longer. Although, the bottle may make the baby stop taking the breast, in which case you'd have to start pumping if not already.

He or she might start preferring one nipple and than be fussy when given the other. Also Always consult or call your doctor. I think one month is too young to be switching or combining. My eldest neice was weened off breast milk at one month and broke out in . . . I don't know what it was but she looked like she had a very red and itchy rash. Good luck!

My doctor told me that when my baby has days where it seems like she can't get full and is wanting to eat alot its ok to give her some formula to help. I tried that but my baby doesn't like formula, and she won't take a bottle, she wants mommy only.
