Keep in mind this is someone you have never met and will probably not see very often...What exactly would you say or do?

Well, clearly the money wasn't well spent... An expensive couch shouldn't break, even if a larger perosn sat on it... I'm a big fella, my wife is a big girl and we both sit on our Ikea sofa (which was VERY cheap) and it's fine!

I'd try contacting the couch manufaturer and asking them to fix/replace it as it clearly isn't of a very good build quality.

It's funny that you say that because I have a very expensive futon couch made of "metal" and have the wood sides with magazine racks and the arm rests opened up to stash stuff and had a really nice fluffy beige mattress and every thing.... nicest piece of furniture I have even owned and one of my roomates friends came over 2 weeks ago and sat down right in the middle and real close to the edge and within 5 minutes........ SNAP, CRACKLE, POP....... snaped right in half........I was like OMG...I said "what happened?" "what did you do?" "I can belive you broke my couch!" she was like "oh I am sorry, was it expencive?" I said "ya like $975.00 she said I will give you a couple hundred dollars is that ok?... I said ok I guess since you my roomates friend and I will have my roomate give me the rest... I have not heard from her since that night and my roomate dissapered 3 days later and is missing in action...... just up and left took all her stuff when I was a work....... dammit I am not made of money either.... now I have some crappy hide a bed couch I got for $40.00 at the thrift store... no more expensive couches for me I guess... my dogs like it better anyway because I don't yell at them telling them "GET OFF THE COUCH" good luck....

tell them you need a new freakin couch. i know it was an accident, but nicely ask if they know a good place to purchase another one..ad they should get the idea and OFFER to buy it. what kind of person breaks a couch when they sit on it and then feels confortable leaving without offering to replace it? yes. i would give them the website info and give them a hint on where to buy a new one

wow.

if it were indeed an expensive couch, one would think it would be able to withstand even a very heavy person sitting on it....

I'd be more likely to return the couch and ask for my money back!

Did the person realize they broke it???

Are you close to this person???

In my opinion, the person (if they knew it broke) should have offered to pay for damages. You shouldn't feel like you are doing wrong by asking. I know it must feel very weird, but you gotta say something since it is obvious that Big-N isn't going to.

No. You invited the person into your house- they were your guest. It is an embarassing situation for everyone involved, but the one you should complain to is the couch manufacturer.

My son - in - law is very big and heavy and broke a chair of mine, this was when he and my daughter was first dating and I would never even dream of asking him to pay for it. It was humiliating enough for him. I was just glad he didn't get hurt.

I would tell that person, with all do respect. please don`t sit on the couch as it may break the couch. If you did that, and the person still sat down, then you do what you feel is right.
