L=39/3 = 13m
A = 6.5m x 13m = 84.5m²

First draw yourself a picture so the problem is easier to see. Because you are given the perimeter of the rectangle (which is 39) you must first find all the sides that add up to 39 and make an algebraic equation. This one would be:
2x + 2x + x +x = 39 (the x equals the width; 2x equals the length because the length is 2 times the width)
Then you just solve for x, x= 6.5
Then you plug in 6.5 for x in the following equation (remember length times width equals the area of a rectangle):
(2x) (x) = the area
The area thus equals 84.5 meters squared

A rectangle has four sides.
If the two long sides are twice the length of the short sides, you have:-
"x" - short side - as your base.
The rectangle = 6x
x + x = the two ends
2x + 2x = the two longer sides
39/6 = 6.5
6.5 + 6.5 = 13
(2*6.5) + (2*6.5) = 13 + 13 = 26
26 + 13 = 39.
So you have a rectangle 13m by 6.5m
You do the last bit!

Let the width be x and the length be 2x.
2*2x+2*x=39m
4x+2x=39m
6x=39m
x=6.5m
2x=13m
Area = 2x*x
= 13m*6.5m
= 84.5m²

(2L + 2W = 39
(L = 2W
A = 2w * w
2(2w) + 2w = 39
4w + 2w = 39
6w = 39
w = 39 : 6
w = 6,5m
L = 2w
L = 2*6,5
L = 13 m
A = 13 x 6.5
A = 84,5m²
Answer: The area of rectangle is 84,5 m².

x=width
2x+2(2x)=39m
6x=39m
6x/6=39/6
x=6.5
6.5 x 2(6.5)=
6.5 x 13 =84.5
