Ummm.. i don't think you can remove it because it's tightly integrated into window. What you can do is disable it. Go to Control panel, System, Automatic Updates and click on the box Turn off automatic update.

Windows Update is integrated into the Windows XP Operating System. I don't think you can *uninstall* it, but you CAN disable it. Go to Control Panel and dbl-click the "System" icon. Click on the Automatic Updates tab and choose "Disable" and click OK. You're done. =)

I think you mean to say how do I stop windows update downloads. You go to control panel click on security center then windows updates then turn off automatic update then press ok.

If you think an update mess up your Windows and you want to uninstall the update and bring back the system configuration before it was mess up by the update; you can use System Restore.
go to start, accessories, system tools then system restore, go back to restore point before the update installation.

i suggest going to your control pannel>>add or remove programs>>windows components (or other) and click on the windows update symbol and click "remove" it should take you through a uninstall wizard.
