Before you think i am making this up, we used to do this when we were younger to watch people follow.
It only worked in ethnically diverse neighborhoods (and don't get all mad-i'm an ethnic blend myself)...why would you start running (or follow someone)?

HAHAHAH I used to do this in my school a lot, and then the girls used to start running after me for no reason! :)

I've never seen it happen, but I love that story by James Thurber! I forget the exact title, something like "The day we ran" or "The day the dam broke."
Someone in town started running. Someone else just happened to run too. Then somehow it turned into a full-blown panic, and everyone thought the dam had burst. Hysterical story.

i learnt to run the other way if too many started running to something, usually a fight.

That happens in my neighborhood also! It's creepy... Maybe either they are stalkers or maybe they feel weird... I have no idea to telll you the truth.
