Hmm... looks like a homework assignment. Trying "Googling" Homer + Greek Civilization. Or, better yet- go to your local public library and ask the librarians for books on Homer and Greek Civilization. You will get lots of information and impress your teacher besides.

homer was 2 things a poet and a philosopher
* poetry like art is something that can influence society greatly, just look all the fools these day who still belief atlantis was a real island. He inspired a society of greek poets and influenced what we now understand to be traits of their gods. also with stories like the trojan war he spead tales of the might of the greek army thoroughout the world as the ancient greeks knew it
* through his poetry he showed deep thought and philosphy to understanding and influncing the way the greeks understood their world.
