yes.
In a world where all the traditional European world powers have either disarmed or let their military forces atrophy to such an extent that they were incapable of carrying out peace making actions in the Balkans, The US is the only power with global reach.
The British stand alongside the US in many theaters of conflict and take losses of troops to do so, but their capabilities and size of the army are inadequate to do the jobs already given to them by British politicians.
In the present climate, US power is severely constrained by World public opinion and by focus on the UN as a body which should be relied upon to guarantee world security.
It is not inconceivable, that such reliance on the UN be found to be as ill-founded as the case of the League of Nations was in 1930's.
If global conflict was to occur under that scenario it would be clear that the US military was the only one with Superpower status.
Although currently the Chinese are heavily modernizing their armed forces.

Superpower come on what a joke, we were defeated in Vietnam, losing in Iraq and questionable in Afghanistan what hope would we have against a modern enemy? None. Without UK support we would have no hope of even surviving.

The USA is a superpower, and one that been in place for history...the UK has not helped the USA to achieve that status, its our nuclear arsenal and military that makes us a superpower, remember the atomic bombing of Japan by the USA following the Pearl Harbor attack. This has placed fear in many country's mind.

Yes, the U.S. status as a superpower is a result of the size of its economy, technological prowess and military capabilities. All of these things would still exist without the U.K. Interestingly, the current "special relationship" which is the basis of U.S./U.K. relations grew out of the Suez crisis and the realization, by the British, that they were no longer a superpower.

yes. we have been a superpower since WWII. we proved to the world that we can hold our own and still can today. we have the most modernized and well equipped military, our economy is very good (not including all the trade with the rest of the world). we have the best working government in the world with freedoms of all kinds for everyone and we can still hold our own in a conflict. but, the iraq conflict is one of which america has never seen the likes of. so we will have to learn and adapt to this situation and our military is doing a very good job of that. now, our politics is a different story on the iraq conflict, but nonetheless, the u.s. is still a world superpower
