being a front wheel drive car it is kind of a pain in the butt because of limited space. If the car runs the way it is I would flush everything first. Auto zone / Napa etc. sells flush kits, just follow the directions on the package.
How do you know the water pump is bad? Well anyway, if it is bad and you want to replace it:
1. Remove belts
2. Take off timing belt cover (inspect timing belt while your at it, if it is frayed or looking worn at all reinstall cover and belts and take car to a mechanic).
3. Locate water pump and remove hoses
4. Remove water pump bolts (some of the bolts may have to be accessed through the inner fender (so you may have to remove the inner fender)
5. This is not an easy job, if you are still feeling up to it and are making progress then excellent, you are all most half way.
6. Install new water pump the same way the old one came off, if the thermostat is near the water pump, you may as well go right on ahead and change that to, don't forget the new gasket.
Good luck...

Water pumps fail because of the pump shaft seal finally giving in to the common tension on a warm engine of around 15 PSI. Or in case you have an electric powered water pump the electrical powered motor can placed on out all and sundry of those lot of years. Having your cooling equipment flushed and refilled with new coolant and optimistically distilled water does no longer do something to the water pump. sturdy success!!

hey if your car has the 1.5 engine you have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump which can be difficult the first time you do one.best thing to do if you want to attempt it yourself is go to your local parts store and get a good repair manual most parts stores have haynes brand manuals which are ok for this it will show you how to get the timing belt back right, which will be your biggest hurdle. the labor guides pays 2.5 hours to do this job so hurry up lol!!!!

It would take quite some time to give you an educated instruction breakdown on the process.
GO BUY THE BOOK!!
