If you're referring to school, noone stays 'cool' after high school gets out. They become the person serving you drinks at The Pretzel Peddler, the person who gains 50 pds., the soccer mom, the person who realizes how mean they were and want to be your friend, or in dire circumstances; ends up alone and lonely....lol. *gasp* They blend into a world where you become an ant that's a part of a major colony. The 'cool' people move outside the circle of security they once knew. Some will change, and some never will. That's just the way it goes.
As for in the adult world, sure being popular is okay. But I'd rather have a few close friends than tons of people who think I'm cool but wouldn't throw a rope for me if I was drowning.

It is the most superficial thing on the face of this earth. Only lame people want to be popular. There is more to life than that like being successful and how stupid is it to look down on others? Who does the person think he or she is? We should all treat each other the way we want to be treated.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's cool. Because everyone is popular. If you have a friend you are popular with that person

I think that people mistake popularity as being liked and everyone needs to feel liked and accepted. Being liked and accepted for who you are is cool.

I think it's not cool. People R people. There is no such thing as a "popularity contest" at school. Also arguing about who's popular leads to school fights.

Being popular is NOT cool. Because, if you are popular, you are following what everyone else is doing. How about being yourself? That is much cooler.

Depends on what you're popular for.
Bullying people so that they're too scared of you is wrong, and very hallow.
Being known as a kind, good person who lends a helping hand to others is a much better way to be.

I have been thinking of posting a question asking why people are loners. I feel that each person should stand on their own and then find like people. Being popular for it's own sake is shallow.

It's much cooler to set your own path rather than follow others.
