Study Britain prior to WW II. Churchill showed leadership long before he came into power as Prime Minister. Chamberlain showed no leadership at all.

Good leadership is in important. Bad leadership (that's leaders who think they no what they're talking about but really don't kind of like G. Bush) is also important because you have to think of way to get that leader out of power. But without good leaders the whole world would live in Anarchy which would mean total chaos and no law and if that happened it would kind of be like living in Iraq right now in the middle of a civil war.

True leaders do so by example, whenever someone tells you that they are leading; be very wary, they are covering their tracks or covering up their true intentions. Generally only sheep and cattle need to be led because they don't know which way to go, people should know what they want and let their representatives carry out their wishes.
