Certainly not if you are the fox running for it's life...

It was a sideline issue- goodness knows how much important legislation slips through the house unnoticed...

Anyway, fox hunts never used guns, guns, and poison, and probably traps are what will be used to kill foxes if the ban is ever properly enforced. Pets and other wildlife will start to die as well as a result, of course, the hunt used to get cats as well sometimes, but that was relatively rare. The bottom line in the country seems to be that the fox is vermin, and will be controlled one way or another- maybe we'll see some of the more sensitive hunt protesters campaigning to have the shooting of foxes stopped, and then to have the poisoning of rats stopped, then perhaps to have the wholesale slaughter of animals for meat stopped? Yessssss....

Hmm, sorry, bit of cynical rant there... I wish I could bring up another piece of legislation that was also useless and do a compare and contrast, but I am unable to do so. Nonce myself!

No - the Section 28 bill which outlawed homosexuality being discussed in schools was the most useless. It changed nothing about what schools discussed in Personal Social and Health Education - and there wasn't a single complaint against it or prosecution under it in the 20 years it was law.

If the fox hunting bill were enforced it might make a difference. Whether they like it or not the police must enforce it. It isn't the police's job to decide which laws they do or don't enforce.

I always believed fox hunting was inhumane and there are better ways to control animals than letting a pack of dogs rip them apart..as for the sporting issue- sent trails have proved very affective and could be used to replace the real hunt...but I wish Mr Blair's government had taken as much time to deliberate / discuss /argue the case for going to war in Iraq..more hours were wasted on the fox hunting issue during Blair's rein on Briton that any other topic of politics..so the fact that after all this time the hunters refuse to stop hunting says it was a useless bill, unless they find a real way to control the hunt.Try spending as much time on the issues that affect people and we might actually start to get somewhere!

I agree with you. More to the point Fox is as English as Apple Pie is American. What are they trying to do in parliament? Next look for you having to have permission of the Queen or Parliament to make love to your wife. That is were that F**** word originated If it keeps up over there.
Looks like it is about time for the Jackivites (mispelled) to return and put things straight. Parliament is turning into a bunch of Cromwell Round Heads.

fox hunting should be allowed has anyone seen chickens heads ripped off and just left laying around the only fox to be caught by fox hounds are old crafty foxes that leave a lot of heartbreaking devistation for the owners of small pets, unless you live in a rural area you would not be affected, cats rip heads off rabbitsand rats this is called nature same as spiders eat flies not all foxhunters are rich they just like to keep law and order in this field , the young fox feeds itself and causes no devastation they are fast and can outrun the hounds everytime

An absolutely ridiculous Act of Parliament. It was another vicious attack against our heritage and history by individuals who do not understand about others with a different point of view and way of life. Petty jealousy was involved, thinking that it was only for the wealthy, not knowing that people of all Classes enjoyed this sport. Thousands of families (workers) lost their incomes and many animals lost their lives (dogs). Basically it was Towny against Country. The final act of Law is not watertight as there are ways around it. This law ensures another waste of police manpower and money chasing innocent individuals instead of protecting them from the real criminals in the country.

Useless no, why should the poor old foxes be hounded and chased by a pack of hounds and then when caught torn to pieces watched by the huntsmen and followers. It should definitely have been banned and those (no matter who they are) who still participate should be severely punished, perhaps they would like to be chased by a pack of hounds and then torn into little pieces to the glee of the onlookers.

Totally agree, lets see all the city softies say how cute foxes are!! I expect they've never been outside and seen their pet rabbits head ripped off and played with by a fox for fun, ahhh how cute! Fox hunting is a country necessity. Without fox hunting people loose jobs, and what do they think happen to the fox hounds? They're not pets and cannot be treated as such, but thats ok, i'm sure they wouldn't mind a pack of hounds put down to save a cute fox. Oh and did i mention the fact that alot of British wildlife depends on fox hunting? Without it we would have huge fields with no hedgerows dividing fields, no copices etc which home alot of native wildlife. Bring back hunting with hounds!!!! By the way to all you fox softies how do you feel about a fox being shot and making its way back to its earth and bleeding to death for a few days in absolute agony........because thats your apparent alternative to controlling foxes....

no! Fox hunting is a barbaric ritual, only for the extremely rich or upper class. How would you like it if someone decided that YOU were fair game and they were allowed to chase you through the countryside with a pack of dogs that was then allowed to tear you apart while still alive?

Actually, I am surprised that it didn't happen sooner because it was a deft political move. It simultaneously attacked three very unpopular things:

The upper class/conservatives/wealthy
Animal abuse
Guns

And it did all this without actually damaging too many people, since only a few percent of Britons actually fox hunt. So, in terms of winning votes, it was very useful. In terms of actually making the world a better place, not so much.
