Plato urged us to transform our values by taking to heart the greater reality of the forms and the defectiveness of the corporeal world. That we must recognize that the soul is a different sort of object from the body — so much so that it does not depend on the existence of the body for its functioning and can, in fact, grasp the nature of the forms far more easily when it is not encumbered by its attachment to anything corporeal. Plato said that the soul always retains the ability to recollect what it once grasped of the forms, when it was disembodied, and that the lives we lead are, to some extent, a punishment or reward for choices we made in a previous existence. Plato wrote that true philosophers — those who recognize how important it is to distinguish the one thing that is goodness, virtue or courage from the many things that are good, virtuous or courageous are in a position to become ethically superior to unenlightened human beings, because of the greater degree of insight they can acquire.

self interest? everything: physical and non-physical, that "exists", exists at a certain frequency. the higher the frequency the more beneficial for YOU and everyone else it "impacts". thus, every thought, every word, every place, every being, every everything emits a vibratory field. so, the more "good" you emit, and the more "good" you surround yourself with, the healthier, stronger, and wiser you will be. how many people understand this fact and are wise enough to, at least, have it play some role in their life? ;-)

Being good is the most successful way to ensure that you have a good and fulfilling life. If you treat people other than you wish to be treated yourself you are inviting them to treat you in a way you don't want to be treated. If you lie to people then don't be surprised if you are lied to, if you cheat people don't complain when they cheat you. The best way to ensure that you will be treated fairly is to treat others fairly or to treat them as they treat you. If you do this you will be acting in your own and their best interests. That is why you should be good. The choice is yours however.

Hmmm, I dunno..is it because you are a bad boy?

Just be good for goodness sake...it's bad enough that we're all capable of being bad without giving it any thought. Be good because you want to, you care and because you have a conscience...
