I get Charlies all the time. Mine are caused by a diuretic I take for swelling in my legs. It makes me urinate and not retain water but it washes the potassium out of my body. I take potassium 3 times a day and that fixes the problem.
Other meds, like prednsione etc. will do the same.
The lack of Magnesium also causes Charlies.

Cramp in the muscles from overuse. Sometimes can also be related to lack of potassium in your body.
To prevent this, eat one banana a day. That way you don't have to take medication. Banana is good source of potassium.
If you are pregnant and experiencing this, happens to all pregnant women. LOL. If not pregnant or not even a woman, see above information and follow it.
Thanks for giving me an opportunity to help.

Lots of things can cause a charley horse (muscle spasm). Overworking muscles, dehydration, potassium, mag, or calcium def. in the blood can do this too. When you get one, try to keep your leg warm, and slowly stretch it out......it hurts like heck, i know.
