I've been interested in acting for about a year now maybe 2. My parents and I want me to be a vet but right now I want to act more then become an act. I was thinking maybe I could get a degree in Veterinary medicine but also be an actress. I dont' know how to tell my parents though. We're not rich, and I don't want to spend a lot of money. Do you have any ideas on how to tell my parents and how not to spend a lot of money. (I already know of some sites that have auditions) Please only serious answers.

Do plays in your school and community theater around your area. Disney Channel sometimes holds auditions for shows in New York and probably a few other areas.

All artists should have a back-up career, unless you have a passion for starving and being penniless. (Not tryign to squash your dream, just trying to make sure you don't end up like htat.)

So yes, be a vet, and you can always act. If you make it big, sure, you can drop your job as a vet, but you need a solid job supporting you.

Community theatres offer you good experience that you may not get otherwise. Also, if you want and if you have other friends interesting in acting, perhaps even a friend interested in playwrighting, you could create your own plays and produce them just as a small, local thing. These plays don't need an expensive set or anything, they just need creative souls and a play. This will give you experience in creating a show from absolutely nothing to something you can be proud of.

Summer Arts Camps are always great opportunities, but they tend to be pricey. If you could ever manage it, I recommend going to one, but if you can't don't worry about it.

Just tell your parents that you are passionate about this and you are not giving up on being a vet, you are just broadening your range of interests.

The biggest misconception about theatre is that it is something you cannot do on the side. Everybody thinks of movie stars and famous live actors when they think fo theatre, but you can act anywhere on any budget. Even if it never becoem syour career, it is a wonderful and creative interet. Through your art form, you can learn a lot more about yourself and mature into a better, more true to yourself, person.

Best of luck.

Be Careful with those audition sites as a lot of them are scams. Everyone is entitled to change their mind on what they want to do with their life. Hopefully your parents will support your new idea. We support our daughter 100% in her desire to become an actress. Why shouldn't we? It'll be too hard to become a Vet. and be an actress. Going to Vet. school is long and difficult. Why not take some acting classes at your local Community College (They're prices are always reasonable), or be in some school plays, etc. Let them know that you want to do this and do it no matter what if that's what YOU really want to do. It'll be your life and you should be happy with what you do, not do something to please others. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
