Hi, this is a question in follow up to two questions I posted a few weeks back re: where is my antifreeze going if it is not leaking out of my 96 Bonneville and a question re: airbag deployment for no reason.
GM finally came out today and had an estimate done for the air bag. From your answers re: antifreeze disappearing and a diagnostic test, the manifold is cracked. GM guy says that the air bag deployed because the passenger side floor is wet from a leak in the window or floorboard or something, (not because it rained and the windshield was broken from the airbag and the car sat in a parking lot for a week) and the air bag system is under that and it corroded, setting it off.
Now, I thought I remembered from an answer re: antifreeze that someone told me to check if the passenger floor was wet. All that to ask this, is he full of sh it? Is it possible for the floor to be wet because of the manifold? I mentioned this to him and he looked at me like I was stupid. Thanks!

Okay sounds like it is most likely from the heater. The heat works fine so far as I can remember, maybe this means it's on it's way out? Any statements about the air bag system under the passenger side or how long it would take to corrode like that? Thanks again.

On virtually all cars, the heater core is on the firewall just opposite the passenger's foot well. You should be able to wipe up the wet substance with a clean white towel to see if the liquid is colored, oily and has a smell to it. If so, it is coolant leaking from the heater core or heater hoses.

No the manifold is on the engine with no direct link to the passenger floor boards. If the floor boards are wet it's possible your heater core is bad that would explain disappearing antifreeze as for the air bag deploying becuz the wires were corroded, I believe he is full of sh*t. With out the vin I'm not able to check for sure but I believe the air bag wires run under the dash not in the floor boards. Where things are always spilled and people will be stepping. Get a different estimate take it to a body shop or if you have full coverage insurance get the insurance company involved.

hey sounds like your having fun!!!ok i have seen times in the past that antifreeze can travel down the underside of your heater hoses from the intake through the firewall and into the passenger side heater box.so that could explain your wet floor but its been my experience that 95 cars out of 100 with this problem have a leaking heater core.but something else to think about is that it is very easy to tell the difference between water and antifreeze(which smells sweet and is slippery on your fingers)so if your gm guy is any good and he thinks it may be water(rain)it may very well be which would most likely meen you gasket around the winshield is leaking.

Don't know what you're driving but definitely heater core leaking or if Japanese some have control valve leak in same area. Radiator will be low, could be overheating or giving a wrong sensor reading. Also some cars computer is under floor board on pass. side. Of course stalling may be coincidence and another problem.

Your heater core is leaking or the a/c heater box drain is plugged with leaves or other crap.

Pull up the carpet and see if there is coolant under there, it will be fluorescent green or yellow if it's coolant. Coolant also has a sweet smell to it.

Put a paper towel on the wet floor - If it doesn't come back relatively clear when wet, then you've got a fluid leak as opposed to water.

i guess antifreeze could get on the floor if something in the heater was broken...
