You can do many different jobs with a Masters in Psychology. If you are more asking about counseling jobs though, a Licensed Professional Counselor is about the top of the heap as far as Master's level. It allows you to set up a licensed counseling office and accept private insurance for payment. Your income will really depend on you and how good you are and how well you market yourself and how well you are connected. I know some LPC's making $200,000+ and some that are barely clearing $30,000. I personally have a Masters in Psychology but work in the mortgage industry where I utilize my skills learned from Psychology. The degree itself is rather useless with out the other licenses and certifications that allow you to make the real money. With only the degeree you are probably maxing out around $40,000 in most areas so if you head down that road do what it takes to get the license along the way.

For the time spent in school, there really isn't that much money in psych unless you are a psychiatrist and compared to other types of doctors even they aren't paid as well. You could work in a variety of settings....guidance counselor, family counselor, you could work in a private office or work in a hospital. There is so much. You could even teach as community colleges with a Master's in Psych.
