Well, in the Harry Potter books the captain of the Gryffindor Qiditch Team was named Oliver Wood. It could be nicknamed as Ollie, this way you both win. Oliver being somewhat normal, and Ollie Wood as daft. If it is a girl Olivia Wood.

Better to call him Oliver, your partner can still call him Ollie as a pet name is he/she likes but the child can choose either the full version or to use a nickname when he is older. Ollie doesn't sound so cute if he turns out to be a hulking six-footer or an earnest lawyer. it would also prevent the annoyance of having to explain every time he gives his name to anyone even remotely official that yes, it really is his full name, because most people will assume it is a shortened version. Also I personally think that Ollie Wood sounds too much like Hollywood for comfort - he'd be bound to get teased at school.

It's a shame last name is Wood because Holly is a nice girls name for this time of year!
But I presume that it's a boy, if Ollie had been chosen by your bloke. I like Ollie as a name, but with wood it's just too much.
What about Elijah? I know that guy from Lord of the rings is called that but it's a nice name for a xmas baby, or what about somthing else biblical? Noah? Cain?
I'm not a religious freak, just my daughter was born 2nd Jan but due 21st dec and I looked into xmas names alot.

I had a teacher named Holly O who married another teacher, Mr Wood... and yes... that makes her Holly Wood. She has a GREAT sense of humor and is a drama teacher, so it works... plus, she didn't have to grow up with it.
I don't suggest Ollie. What would you have done if **YOUR** name had been Ollie? What would the kids in your grade have said?
Maybe you should write out a list of 10 names... and wait to decide after you see his/her face. Once you look you'll know exactly what you want to call him... its a mothers intuition!
Good Luck!

Well the thing is i'm sure you mean, Oliver, and he will only be called Ollie in general. So Ollie Wood sounds a bit.....mmmm, but Oliver Wood sound really good to me!Once you get called by your name and surname they usally use your real name, not your nick name.
Good luck with the birth, may it go really well!

How about Oliver? It goes better with Wood, but he could have Ollie as a nickname or a shorter version of his full name.
Remember, you both should be happy with the decision for his name, which should be one you think your son will be proud to grow up with.
Good luck choosing a name, and I wish you well through the birth! Let us know how you get on!
Merry christmas, and a very happy new year!

I'm wondering if Ollie is going to be short for Oliver... if so, Oliver Wood is a very good name. Shortening it to Ollie Wood however, could inspire some teasing from his future playmates and schoolmates.
BTW, if your son's name is going to be Oliver, I thought you'd like to know that there is a character in the first Harry Potter book named "Oliver Wood."
Best wishes on the birth of your little boy!

Not sure if you are aware or not, but Ollie wood is actually a skate park, mostly advertised on video games such as Disney extreme skating ect. How about the name Hunter? I think that name Hunter Michael Wood is a good name how about you?
