Is there such a thing as evil? We only know that things are good from our knowldge of what is wrong or evil and vice versa.

The actions of so called "evil people" in history have lead to "good" developments. Evil dictators and monarchs leading to Democracy as an example.

So as good can only exist in comparison to evil and evil can lead to good therefore evil can be good and good evil....

Isn't all just a matter of personal perception and if I am made this way by God why should someoone else be able to tell me what is good and evil and right and wrong?

I heard that one of the prosecutors at the Nazi trials in Nuremberg defined evil as the absence of empathy. The more I think about it, the more I believe this is pretty accurate!

Somewhere in the Divine Comedy, probably in the Paradiso, Dante is told that God judges an action by the intention, not the resulting consequences. So if a man spares someone else's life and that man ends up killing a million people, the first man has still done a good thing. I think you're right in your thoughts about good and evil, and this is probably one of those questions that confound the church. Because good and evil are all held in opinion, no one is right.

Evil is anything which does not promote the common good or which promotes vices and badness.
