Neutering will not drive him mad. It just stops his testosterone production, that' s all. He might get a little calmer after 6 months, but the point is now he has a behaviour which he knows, even if it is due to his high testosterone, now this is a learned behaviour. He might continue being the same even after being neutered, because he is too old to change. But he could get better. What you need to do is training your dog, ask a professional for help, butmind you: don't use violence or electric collars or pain or choking him with chokers etc, he will turn more aggressive.

At around age two dogs undergo a major personality change. At that point is when they become adults and start asserting themselves in the pack hierarchy. If he's been aggressive before, and is getting worse, I would say the least you can do to help is neuter him. I would recommend getting a trainers help ASAP. Sadly, for dogs that weren't socialized well, or just have a mean bone in them, this may not be enough and the most humane thing may be to put him down before he hurts you or someone else. Having been there myself, and having watched people go through it, I know it's not easy, but at heart dogs are all some piece wolf and some breeding and genetic make ups bring that part closer to the surface. And before anyone else tells you it's a pit bull thing, know that I have seen Goldens, Labs, Chihuahuas, Beagles and mutts go through this. The one staffie I know who was put down wasn't near this bad, but the owner was a breeder and very responsible. She didn't let it get bad. I hope a neutering will help him, but know that you aren't alone if it doesn't.

Statistically, more people are bitten by unneutered dogs - of any breed or mix. Yes, neutering will help, but training is definately needed also - as he is 2 years old, not a clean slate like a puppy. He has formed attitudes that need to be changed - ask your vet for a reccomendation of a trainer that specializes in behavior problems. Otherwise, you have a lawsuit waiting to happen.
That is a myth someone told you about the going crazy from being neutered. Actually, if you would have had him neutered at 6 months of age, you most likely would not be having the problems you are now having - at least not to this extent.

This is not so much a question about getting him fixed or not. Your pit bull thinks he is the boss of the house and people are not asking him if they can come in. You need to work on training your dog more. This is a really good pit bull site that can give tips to help train your pit bull better I would recommend you look into it oh and pit bulls should not be people aggressive at all it is not in their nature pbrc.net

My friend has a female brindle...and she has no problems yet, but I'm going to send this question to her as she breeds pit bulls and has lot of knowledge about the breed.
edit: My friend says: once a pit bull "turns" neutering will not help, she says your dog need lots of socializing with people and other dogs.. but even then it may not work. Some Pit bull's have a genetic disposition to become aggressive.

Pit bull males did not go crazed after two years. Male dogs of any breed can become aggresive after about 2 years if not fixed. You say yours was a little from the begainning, yes it will help. My neices lab got so bad he attacked her son. You need to see about him before something happens and they start saying in your town pit bulls need to be banned

Getting him neutered MIGHT help but it is defenitley NOT enough! Right now he thinks he is the pack leader and he thinks he owns the house and owns you! You probably dont take him for walks, but if you, make sure he is walk next to you or beside you! Dogs need '' The Walk''! There is a television show called Dog Whisperer (national geographic channel on 63) and stars Cesar Millan. He is a dog behaviorist/psychologist and not just a dog trainer!
Here are websites that will help you understand your dogs psychology! http://cesarmillaninc.com or http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/programs/dog-whisperer.html

get the dog neutered! Seriously!
then take it to a behaviorist! it is not an aspect of the breed to be people-aggressive. they are "the nanny dog"! bred to be friendly and loyal to people. if you cannot resolve the human aggression, this dog should be put down.
i have an am staff--i'm not a pit-bull-hater.

YES!!!!!!! All dogs should be spayed or neutered, it makes them better pets, and it's the sociably responsible thing to do. It is best if done before they are 6 months of age, but do it anyway, it will help, especially if there are female dogs around.
