I probably would just leave on the ground because I'd say I'd bring to the police but accidently on purpose keep in my pockets. I don't want to feel guilty about it and so I'll let another person who's honest enough to bring to the authorities.

Why bring it to the police? I mean, Im a honest person, but let,s cut the crap, if I find $500 just lying there on the ground I take it and that's the end of it.

Unlikely the true owner would be found. Unless the 500 were in a marked envelope or wallet.
I did find 100 cash once though. At night, no one around. Was really weird. Wasn't mine, so I donated it to the Salvation Army.
Didn't have it before, so didn't miss it after I donated.

Assuming it was not in a wallet or purse with ID, I'd likely treat myself to a nice dinner at 5-star restaurant, fine wine, cigars, cognac, etc. Then give the rest to my favorite drug policy reform orgs because the police make enough money when the STEAL from people in the name of the drug war.

If it had ID I'd contact the owner because I once lost my wallet with over $700 cash in it and the person who found it turned it over to the store manager and I recovered it. What goes around comes around. I gave the employee $50 reward.

Why bring it to the police? The pigs would just keep it for themselves. Besides anyone stupid enough to lose $500 will just waste it on something stupid, anyway.
