They are different "cliques" or subcultures that exist in different junior high schools and high schools. The style various by school, but basically:
a. "Goths" tend to dress and act "dark", although they do it to be different and to be "mysterious".
b. "Emos"..... Well, "emo" is short for emotional, and they are similar to goths. They tend to try and stick out, only they do it by trying to be depressed and by pulling the "no one understands me" card.
c. Cutters..... They cut themselves. Usually to follow the emo trend, to do what is popular, etc. These people need to get a swift kick in the *** and have their switchblades, razors, etc. taken away from them. Then, there is also a small minority of the group that is comprised of suicidal teens. They are actually depressed and not just trying to follow a stupid trend. The teens following the trend do it to get attention from their fellow cutters, friends, etc.; the teens that don’t follow the trend usually have little self-confidence and are doing it to either get help or kill themselves. (Most want to get the attention, but others want "whatever comes first.") Many of these people need more then a kick in the ***..... Often professional help.
-Anyway, as you can see, these groups are pointless.

Goth is more a lifestyle or outlook on life than anything. They tend to accept that there are bad things as well as good things in life, rather than 'sweep them under the rug', to say, and pretend they don't exist. They can dress however they want, although many prefer darker colors and more dramatic clothes and makeup, and listen to lots of songs and varied genres of music, which can include but are by no means limited to, new wave, darkwave, ethereal, Celtic, goth rock, punk, postpunk, chants, heavy metal, industrial, Latin, et cetera. Not all are interested in vampires - in fact, relatively few are. Many if not most have good relationships with their parents. Very few have mental or psychological problems. Most are actually quite nice, if a bit saturnine. Very, very, very few are 'satanists' or 'devil worsippers'. Most of the young teenagers who listen to Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Slipknot, Korn, My Chemical Romance, Drowning Pool, et cetera and wear heavy thick makeup and studded spike collars and bracelets are called 'Mall goths', shop mostly at Hot Topic, and - this is important - they're not real goths. They just seem to think they are. They act disturbed and surly and try to impress/intimidate people. It seldom works, as most are obviously pathetic, and almost all will (thankfully) grow out of it. If you'd like a comprehensive explanation, try visiting goth.net. Some songs that goths might listen to:
Dragonfly (Conjure one mix) - Cruxshadows
Dazzle - Siouxsie and the Banshees
The Passion of Lovers - Bauhaus
Lucretia My Reflection - Sisters Of Mercy
Lullaby - The Cure
She's Lost Control - Joy Division
In Our Angelhood - The Cocteau Twins
Funeral Night - Bella Morte
Deliverance - The Mission UK
Cemetary Gates - The Smiths
Are 'Friends' Electric? - Tubeway Army
Love Is Stronger than Death - The The
Nowhere Girl - B-Movie
Twilight Of The Mortal - Killing Joke
Seconds - The Human League
Indigo Eyes - Peter Murphy
Right Now - The Creatures
Walk on the Moon - Daniel Ash
No Big Deal - Love and Rockets
Fire Woman - The Cult
For a long and detailed definition of 'emo', try Wikipedia. As for cutters, they are people who self-harm by cutting themselves. (Also known, I believe, as S.M.S., Self Mutilation Syndrome.) It's a psychological disorder, and very few goths 'cut'. Not many emo kids do, although I suspect many posers do it for the aesthetic effect, now that it has become fashionable in certain circles (which just goes to show trendsters will follow anything, I can't wait until scoliosis or bad teeth become 'fashionable.') Anyhow, I hope my answer has been helpful.

These are three different groups, but they do share some similar characteristics.
Goths - from the word Gothic, a medievel style of architecture and dress that emphasizes a sort of dark romance; these people tend to be very pale, wear all black (including black lipstick and nail polish, sometimes), and generally look like vampires.
Emo - two definitions. 1) a style of music called "emotive hardcore" and 2) a personality type - teenagers who like this type of music and tend to make little things into big life-ending dramas. "oh I flunked my test and Janey won't go out with me... life has no meaning... i'm so deep and dark i'm just going to listen to music and think about suicide."
Cutter - someone that cuts their skin. Usually depressed teenagers with low self-image/esteem. They feel unworthy, and use razors or knives to cut their skin (usually where it won't show) as silent act of desperation. It's surprisingly common, and very sad.

I have one for my neighbor & he is just one confused little puppy who wears black, has long greasy hair, smells horrible, has overnight male parties, proudly carves & cuts his arms & legs. Has no tattoos...probably because he spends all his money on pot, meth & video games! He's 23 & still wants to be a teenager. Argumentative, does not follow rules, has issues with everyone. Is in therapy, on probation, rehab reject & just all around so damned depressed that I wish they would sucessfully complete slashing their wrists before someone runs them over. They just don't seem to pay attention to the traffic lights or crosswalks either! They remind me of us hippies back in the 60's, except WE had more of a ONENESS! They seem to have the belief the EVERYONE is against them because of the way they look. In reality, it is the way they ACT that makes people call the Police & have them arrested & removed from public areas. They seem to have a death wish that is so far over the top that no one wants them around.

These people believe in being poor, misunderstood, angst ridden teenagers who listen to bad sappy punk music and wear clothing that was bought from the thrift store. Cutter literally means they cut themself.

They are different people and in fact those terms describe three completely different general groups. Each individual believes differently. They are more styles and music choices than belief systems anyway.

You don't give your age. What were you at 17? Hippy, punk, new romantic? Same thing.
