Bah, Al-Qaida foothold will lessen if only the conflict is resolved. The Islamists faction fighting the government-in-exile and its Ethiopian allies claim they have no ties with Al-Qaida.
Maybe the government should just give up, or try to sort out a compromise, because neither of them have any mandate beyond military force. Lets hear what the Somalians have to say about things.

No we shouldn’t embark on any incursion into any other nation until we withdraw from Iraq. Are resources are stretched too thin to involve ourselves in another conflict. Right now, the best we can do in Somalia, or any other region of the word that could be a potential haven for Islamic terrorists, is to gather intelligence concerning their movements, their funding, and their intended actions.

Troops? Hell no. But the U.S. needs to do some happy humanitarian work over there and fast. It's a developing nation in need of a role model and if the U.S. puts their nose up to the idea, al-Qaeda will gladly step in.

No, if you look at the history of U.S. - Somalia relations, the U.S. already tried that about a decade ago and failed miserably, but there was not much bloodshed or press about it, and the U.S. military simply retreated and left the country in the hands of local warlords until recently when Muslim militants (not necessarily terrorists this time) took full control of the country.

what... we lost 19 troops in Somalia and got "hit hard" but these same people that say that think that "3,000 deaths in Iraq is doing pretty good"?
do any of you listen to yourselves?
or do you just not think U.S. lives are worth spending in an area that doesn't have oil?
Iraq is ten times the mess that somalia ever was... and I'll go dead Amercian soldier's name to name for anyone that thinks otherwise...

The US has the Ethiopians there already. Fighting against the Islamists.
PS Bush 41 sent the troops there last time Clinton pulled them out.

What troops? US barely has enough to go around right now and Somilia (remember Blackhawk down) wouldn't be any kind of cakewalk especially if it's another insurgency/guerilla war.

We did that already, remember? Black Hawk Down, anyone?
We got hit hard and ran home with our tails between our legs, emboldening the terrorists, in my opinion.
Lucy - educate yourself, PLEASE. Clinton sent troops to Somalia. Last time I checked, he's still the poster boy for Democrats.

The Russian front was the wonderful military playground that it was because it was stretched beyond any recognizable description of ' thin ' with the added wonder that it accomplished nothing.
