Is there any symbolism for black ribbons? Such as red is used for AIDS and yellow is used for troop support. My church is passing out black ribbons for the 1.7 billion people who are living in darkness without Christ. I really think this is a good idea. Maybe someone will see this and decide to do it also. Merry CHRISTmas

No offense to non-believers. By living in darkness, I meant 1.7 billion haven't heard of Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!

They also look good on silver packages. Especially good for Oakland Raider fans.

Something about this approach strikes me wrong. It sounds negative and arrogant, akin to "I'm holier than thou." This is not the kind of face I'd want us to show to the world. If Christians did some kind of symbolism like this among themselves, to raise awareness of how many lost souls there are--e.g., look at or think of those ribbons and imagine how many people are out there without Jesus...--that might be a good idea. To wear that ribbon out in the world and explain, "This stands for a lost soul without Christ"--I don't think that would be effective in bringing people to Jesus.
Maybe it would be better to wear buttons that say "Jesus loves you--yes, YOU!" Or maybe, "Ask me how to get to heaven."
Anyway, to answer your original question, black ribbons have been used to mourn disasters and painful events like Hurricane Katrina and the Madrid and London bombings.

yeah.. that is a bit condescending. i am also a christian, but i understand what it feels like to NOT know if religion is something REAL or not.. i think EVERYONE questions that at some point, even strong christians. they have to in order to truly understand what it is like Without Christ.
having said this, i think u should try to do things in a more POSITIVE way. for example, instead of handing out Black because there are "so many people who LIVE IN DARKNESS w/o Christ" (which sounds like u are saying that these people are ignorant, don't know what's going on, blah blah NEGATIVE), perhaps u can do it in a POSITIVE way, such as emphasizing God's Love towards All, like a light color with a heart or something. this would say "hey, regardless of what's going on in ur life, God Loves All of us"..... instead of Pointing OUT that they are supposedly "missing" something in life that they feel they CHOOSE they do not want!
good luck

Are the ballet footwear black as well? i'd not blend and tournament in the journey that they are not. in the journey that your dress is short adequate that your ankles are seen, i'd be sure how a lot i like my ankles. in case you want them, opt for it. in case you don't like them, black ribbon will easily draw interest to them.

Oftentimes, black ribbons are the symbol of death. I imagine your church chose black ribbons symbolizing spiritual death.

Black ribbons indicate mourning or discontent.
But if someone said they were mourning for me because I'm not Christian, I might wear one for them for being so horribly ignorant.
