Why would you have to choose? Why can't you do both?
If you go en pointe, it is the start of something you will put years of training into. You may become a beautiful ballerina and love the art you are immersing yourself in. You can get a true sense of accomplishment after training to become a ballet dancer. You may love performing for years to come as you dance en pointe in ballets, recitals, perhaps professionally. You could be starting something that will take you through a lifetime of fulfillment as a dancer.
If you choose the hip-hop routine, you will have a lot of fun dancing with your friend. Your friendship may even grow through the process. Good memories will be made. But, when the performance is over that will most likely be the end of it. Hip-hop is the current popular dance craze. As fun and exciting as it is, it will not last. Remember disco and break dancing? When I was growing up we had break dancing classes at my dance school. It was a lot of fun and I had fun performing it. But now I teach ballet, tap and jazz, there is not a huge demand for break dancing anymore.
Think through your decision in regards to the long term. Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs, 10 yrs? Is ballet something you feel like you would like to pursue as a career? Is it something you see yourself participating in for a while? If it is not a passion for you, perhaps doing the routine with your friend would bring you more satisfaction.
If starting en pointe is not too important to you, and you are not eager to begin your pointe training, maybe you could dance with your friend now and begin your pointe work at a later time?
Good luck with your decision, I hope you choose what is in your heart.

Pick the one that you love most. Stick with your gut. If you want to do ballet but your friend wants you to do hip hop just remember, It's YOUR decision. NOT hers. I was in ballet myself for about 5 years. I wanted to do hip hop but i had to pick one or the other too. You might not belive me but i had a friend in hip hop too! Her and her sister wanted me to join hip hop but i did what would be cheaper for my parents too. I was going to join hip hop but i realizd i just wanted to do it because my friend was. Well you are different. You have been in hip hop before. But i will say again, Do what you want. Because the choice you make yourself is the best choice!

you should do pointe, not many people get that oppurtunity. and since you have less experience in hip hop i bet if you work more on it your duet would be even more better if you waited a few more years. =)

Definitely pointe! You've been studying for it for 13 years. Hiphop duet sounds like a short term project, not a life-time thing. You can do hiphop later at any point in life, but pointe is serious serious business.

going en pointe, will effect you're dance career forever, a hip hop duet is awesome, but if you dont go en pointe you may never be able to go en pointe again, see if you can both, talk to your teachers see what they think! but go with you're gut! what are you more passionate about!

Your situation reminds me of the movie "SAVE THE LAST DANCE 2".In the end the girl went with the dance she felt most passionate about and which really allowed her to be free and creative in her style.Best of luck!!!!
